I. Overview

 

The LQ-CE001 petroleum asphalt wax content tester is an automatic constant-temperature refrigeration instrument for testing the wax content of petroleum asphalt, developed by Hebei Tianqixingzi Inspection Equipment Co.,Ltd.It conforms to the People's Republic of China industry standard JTG E20-2011 "Test Procedures for Asphalt and Asphalt Mixtures in Highway Engineering" (T0615—2011 "Test Method for Wax Content of Petroleum Asphalt"), and references the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation's "Standard Analytical Method for Wax Content of Petroleum Asphalt" (SH/T0425-92 "Test Method for Wax Content of Asphalt" (Distillation Method), European standard EN 12606-1:2015, and British Petroleum Institute standard IP 459 Part 1 & Part 2.

 

Its temperature control section uses a high-precision,fast-response,and clear-reading digital electronic temperature controller.The refrigeration unit is an imported 750WF22 high-power compressor,capable of deep cooling down to-28℃.This overcomes the shortcomings of previous methods using artificial dry ice cooling and Dewar flask insulation,which resulted in difficult temperature control,limited sample handling,and operational difficulties.

 

The Petroleum Asphalt Wax Content Tester can simultaneously analyze three samples at a time.It features rapid cooling,high control precision,and simple,time-saving,and labor-saving operation.It is an ideal analytical instrument for industries such as petroleum,chemical,construction,and highway construction.

III. Installation Instructions

1.The equipment should be placed indoors at a temperature between-10℃and 30℃,with relative humidity not exceeding 80%.Good ventilation is essential.

2.Take care not to bump or damage the casing and components during unpacking.

3.It is recommended to use an air switch with leakage protection for this equipment;therefore,a power plug is not included with the equipment.

4.This equipment should be placed on a flat surface,ensuring all four casters on the bottom are in contact with the ground and evenly distributing the load.

 

IV. Usage Instructions

 

Add ethanol to the cold bath,ensuring the liquid level is at least 30mm below the top cover.Insert the sensor into the cold bath.Plug in the power and turn on the power switch,temperature control switch,and cooling switch in sequence.Note:Do not turn on all switches simultaneously to avoid excessive starting current from the inductive load,which could blow the fuse.After turning on all switches in sequence(pressing the bottom of the switch is on,pressing the bottom of the switch is off),the stirring and cooling functions will begin,and the power indicator light will illuminate.The heating indicator light shows the current flow at both ends of the heating element;the light will illuminate when the temperature control instrument outputs a control signal.Once the temperature drops to the specified level,proceed according to the standard procedure.

1.Pour industrial alcohol into the cold bath,ensuring the liquid level is 30mm from the top cover.Turn on the power switch(Note:the instrument power supply should be grounded according to national standards),and set the desired temperature(-20℃)on the digital temperature controller.

2.Add 50g of sample to the pyrolysis flask,weighing it to the nearest 0.1g(i.e.,the formula value mb).Seal the distillation flask tightly with a cork.Use a 150ml conical flask of known mass as the receiver,immersed in a beaker containing crushed ice.Make a small hole in the cork of the receiver to allow non-condensable gases to escape.

3.Heat directly with a gas torch,ensuring the flame surrounds the flask.Adjust the flame temperature.Distillation should begin within 5-8 minutes,continuing at a rate of two drops per minute until completion.Then,heat the flask until it is red-hot within one minute.Distillation must be completed within 25 minutes from start to finish.After distillation,any remaining distillate in the side arm should not flow into the receiver.4.Remove the conical flask containing the distillate oil from the ice water,wipe it dry,and allow it to cool at room temperature.Weigh it to an accuracy of 0.05g(i.e.,the formula value m1).

5.To ensure the oil is thoroughly mixed,cap the conical flask containing the distillate oil,heat it appropriately,and shake it.Then,pour the melted distillate oil into another conical flask of known mass.Weigh 1-3g of the distillate oil for dewaxing,accurate to 1mg(i.e.,the formula value m2).

6.Assemble the cooling filter and place it in a cold bath.Connect the suction flask to the vacuum pump using a latex tube.Add 10ml of diethyl ether to a 100ml conical flask containing the oil sample.After complete dissolution,transfer it to the sample cooling cylinder.Wash the conical flask twice with 15ml of diethyl ether.Then,add 25ml of ethanol and mix it with the ether and distillate oil solution.Start timing from the addition of ethanol and cool for 1 hour to allow the wax to fully crystallize and precipitate.

7.Prepare a 50ml ethanol-diethyl ether(1:1)mixture and pour it into a test tube.8.After the wax has fully crystallized and precipitated,remove the plunger and allow it to filter naturally for 30 minutes.Start the filtration device,maintaining a filtration rate of approximately one drop per second.When the filtrate on the wax layer is almost completely removed,add 30 ml of a pre-cooled(-20°C)ether-ethanol(1:1)mixture to wash the wax layer,plunger,and the inner wall of the sample cooling cylinder,removing the solvent from the wax.

9.Remove the sample cooling filtration device from the cold bath,remove the suction flask,and pour the solution into a recovery bottle.Reassemble the cooling filtration device with the suction flask and a single-nozzle conical suction flask.Dissolve the wax in the petroleum twice with 30 ml of preheated(50-60°C)petroleum ether,35 ml each time.Immediately perform suction filtration until no liquid drips.10.Pour the wax solution from the suction flask into a conical flask of known mass(accurate to mg).Rinse the conical flask three times with room-temperature petroleum ether,adding 10-15 ml of rinsing solution to the wax solution in the flask each time.

11.Place the conical flask containing the wax solution on a suitable heat source for distillation to remove the petroleum ether.Then place it in a vacuum drying oven for 1 hour.The drying conditions are:105±5℃,residual pressure 21-35 kPa.Then place the wax recovery bottle in a desiccator to cool for 1 hour and weigh it to 0.1 mg(i.e.,the formula value mw).

12.After the entire test is completed,turn off all power switches.

 

V. Product Calibration

 

This product must be calibrated and certified by a nationally qualified testing unit before use.The calibration method is as follows:

1.The calibrator must be qualified.

2.The calibration should be conducted under constant temperature conditions.

3.3-5(or more)standard thermometers should be used during calibration.4.Insert standard thermometers into representative locations in the water tank(Note:do not place them too close to the copper tube evaporator).

5.Read the temperature value from each standard thermometer and calculate the average.

6.Press and hold the SET button for 5 seconds.Release the button when the temperature display window shows"AL1".Then press the SET button again to enter the LCK interface.The displayed value will be 1(locks parameters outside the set value)or 2(locks all parameters).Change this value to 0(this value is an internal parameter that can be modified).Then press the SET button again to enter the Pb interface(temperature correction parameter interface).Adjust the temperature displayed on the temperature controller according to the average value of the standard thermometers.If the average value of the standard thermometers is 1.5 degrees higher than the temperature displayed on the temperature controller,subtract 1.5 degrees from the original value on the"SC"interface,and vice versa.Accurate to 0.1℃.

7.After setting,press and hold the SET button to return.Observe whether the temperature displayed on the temperature controller matches the average value of the standard thermometer.If there is still an error,continue adjusting according to the above procedure until it matches.

 

VI. Precautions

 

1.Smoking and open flames are strictly prohibited in the working chamber during the test.

2.After the test,remove all alcohol from the working chamber of the wax content generator.

3.If the machine is not used for a long period of time,a trial run should be performed every two months,and the trial run record should be kept.

4.Before using the machine,check that it has good grounding.

5.When the wax content generator is working,the distance between the back of the generator and the wall should not be less than 50cm.
